Volunteer on trail projects
When we organize work parties, we will also post a call for volunteers using the Groton Trails Network listserver. More than 450 people receive these posts.
For most projects, we provide the tools. We will specify if we need additional tools.
Projects (easy to harder) include:
- Clearing fallen branches from trails
- Repairing any trail washouts, holes
- Trimming (widening) trails
- Adding/replacing trail markers
- Mowing grass/brush on trails
- Replacing old and rotting trailhead posts and/or add new ones
- Installing signage
- Creating new trails (cutting, stumping, raking, trimming, etc.)
- Improving and stabilizing the footing of the trails, including bench cutting (levelling the trail by cutting into the hillside to create a wider, flatter tread) and adding stabilizing materials to reduce trail damage and erosion
- Building pedestrian, bike, and equestrian bridges over wet areas.
